Villa meeting Nottingham Forest in the Championship next season will mark a piece of history

Following Aston Villa’s relegation from the top flight, we’ll have a little piece of history when they take on Nottingham Forest in the Championship next season.

Both Villa and Nottingham Forest have been European champions. Villa won the 1982 European Cup by beating Bayern Munich, while Forest won back to back European Cups in 1979 and 1980 against Malmo and Hamburg respectively.

This will therefore mark the first occasion that two European champions meet in a division other than their country’s top flight one (the Championship is the second tier of English football)
