Dundee United relegated to the Championship by Dundee FC

Dundee United were relegated to the Scottish Championship by local rivals Dundee FC as they suffered a 2-1 loss at Dens Park. The venue was the same where United won the title over three decades ago, but this time they had to suffer the ignominy of being relegated to Scottish football’s second tier by their lesser known city rivals.

Mixu Paatelainen’s side took the lead in the second half through Nigerian striker Edward Ofere’s goal, but Kane Hemmings brought Dundee FC back on level terms with his 77th minute strike. Craig Wighton then scored a dramatic 93rd minute winner for the hosts as United were relegated in front of a 10,088 strong crowd.
