Fulham gaffer Mark Hughes- Aston Villa’s new manager?

Aston Villa have identified Mark Hughes as their target No.1 to replace Gerard Houllier as manager after it was revealed that the latter’s heart condition has made it difficult for him to continue as gaffer. Houllier did not have the easiest of times at Villa but did manage to steer the Midlands side away from the relegation zone after a series of good results in the second half of the season.

Hughes meanwhile steered Fulham to 8th place in the league and they will compete in the Europa League next season by virtue of their finish in the Fairplay table. Sparky has a three year contract with the Cottagers which has a one year exit clause written on it. It is this exit clause that Villa hope Hughes will activate and leave Craven Cottage to take charge of affairs at Villa Park.

Should Villa’s plans of appointing Hughes as their new manager not come to fruition, the Midlands outfit have identified David Moyes, Martin Jol, Carlo Ancelotti and Rafa Benitez as other potential replacements.
