Werder Bremen’s Zlatko Junuzovic says he picked up deliberate yellow card against Hannover to miss Bayern game

Werder Bremen star Zlatko Junuzovic has admitted that he deliberately picked up a yellow card in his side’s 4-1 win over Hannover 96 so that he would serve his one game suspension in the club’s game against Bayern Munich.

Bremen have had a poor season so far and can still be forced into the relegation playoffs, and Junuzovic has said it would be better to serve his suspension against Bayern, a game that Werder are almost certain to lose, given the form Pep Guardiola’s men are in, and keep himself available for the rest of the game.

Bremen’s next home game is against Mainz, for which Junuzovic will be available.

Similar stuff was done by Darmstadt last season, with four players getting booked in the last ten minutes of their game against Leverkusen which meant they missed the Bayern game at the Allianz. In that game Darmstadt lead 1-0 at half time, but eventually lost 3-1 to the Bavarian giants.
