Werder Bremen produced a miraculous escape to stay up as they edged Eintracht Frankfurt thanks to Djilobodji’s 88th minute strike. The result means that Frankfurt will have to contest a promotion-relegation playoff against the third best team in the 2.Bundesliga, who have been confirmed as Nuremberg.

Stuttgart were relegated following a 3-1 loss away to Wolfsburg. It was their first relegation in 41 years and what made it worse for the city is that its other two teams- Stuttgart II and Stuttgarter Kickers were also relegated on the same day.

Already relegated Hannover lost 3-1 to Bayern on the final day of the season.

Schalke’s 4-1 over Hoffenheim means they leapfrogged Mainz to 5th spot, with the latter drawing 0-0 with Hertha Berlin.
