Reece Oxford set to return to West Ham in December

Reece Oxford is set to return to West Ham in December after German Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach decided to cut short the youngster’s loan spell.

The versatile Oxford, who can play both in central midfield and defence, was loaned out to Gladbach for the entirety of the 2017/18 season with the hope that it could benefit the youngster the same way as it did for Andreas Christensen, the Danish centre-back who is now a first team regular at Chelsea.

However Oxford is yet to make a single competitive senior appearance for Gladbach this season and has been on the bench for all seven of their league games, with MGB boss Dieter Hecking not still sure how to fit him into the squad. Gladbach’s results have been far from impressive, although they did bounce back from their 6:1 loss to Dortmund by beating Hannover 96 over the weekend.

Oxford’s parent club West Ham moved out of the bottom three over the weekend, with a performance against Swansea this Hammers blog called “dire” and “papering over the cracks“.

However according to FIFA regulations, Oxford will be unable to play for West Ham until the beginning of next year.
