Dortmund & Atalanta fined by UEFA for Europa League transgressions

German outfit Borussia Dortmund and Italian side Atalanta have both been fined by European football’s governing organisation UEFA for their transgressions in the Europa League clash that took place between the two teams earlier this year.

Somewhat bizarrely, Atalanta, who had the charges of racist abuse towards BVB’s Michy Batshuayi levied upon them, were only fined 34,000 euros while Dortmund were slapped with a 40,000 euro fine. Belgian international Batshuayi, obviously not pleased with the verdict, took to social media side Twitter to sarcastically mock UEFA, saying “Lol, Must be my imagination. It’s just monkey noises who cares

Here are the charges and the full ruling below.

Gladbach 3:3 Hoffenheim | BMG come from behind to snatch draw

Borussia Monchengladbach came from behind not once, but THREE times as they drew against Hoffenheim at Stadion IM Borussia Park.

MGB, who had won only once in seven games coming into this fixture, went behind when Benjamin Hubner nodded home Andrej Kramaric’s corner. They equalised in somewhat controversial circumstances when Josip Drmic, an early sub for Bobadilla, scored in the 33rd minute. Hoffenheim were insistent that Drmic had handled the ball, but after a VAR referral, referee Martin Petersen allowed the goal to stand. It was the Swiss international’s first goal in 2 and a half years for the club.

Hoffenheim went ahead through Kramaric’s penalty close to the hour mark. That was cancelled out by Lars Stindl’s strike on 72 minutes, but Hoffenheim retook the lead almost instantly through Florian Grillitsch after MGB had lost possession in midfield.

There was however more late drama to come. A 90th minute corner was headed away by Hoffenheim, but it fell to Raffael, who drove it across the face of goal to the unmarked Ginter at the far post, who made no mistake from close range.

The goal denied Hoffenheim another consecutive win following their previous triumphs over Augsburg and Wolfsburg.

Gladbach’s next game is away at FSV Mainz while Hoffenheim will be at home to Koln.

BVB 1:1 Augsburg 2018- Low attendance at Dortmund game as FCA take home point

Borussia Dortmund’s three game winning streak in the German league was brought to a halt as Augsburg snatched an unlikely looking point at the Westfalenstadion. The draw means that Dortmund now only have a one point cushion over third placed Schalke, with sixth placed Leipzig only three points behind Peter Bosz’s side.

Only 54.300 fans turned up at the Westfalenstadion instead of the 81.000 that normally turn up, with nearly one third of the fans staying away on Monday night.

Dortmund took the lead in the 15th minute through a lightning counter attack. Raphael Framberger’s cross into the BVB box was headed away by Marcel Schmelzer and fifteen seconds later, the ball was into the back of the Augsburg net. The scrambling Hinteregger tried his best to prevent Andre Schurrle’s cross from reaching Michy Batshuayi, but his weak sliding clearance meant the ball fell perfectly into the path of the incoming Marco Reus, who made no mistake from close range.
