Disappointing evening for City at the Bernabeu as their European campaign came to an end following a narrow loss to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. Gareth Bale scored Real’s opener (their only goal of the game), which was later credited as an own goal by Fernando.
City lost talismanic captain Vincent Kompany to injury within the first ten minutes and struggled to impose themselves on the game. We all thought this would be full of goals, given how poor both teams have been defensively in recent months, but instead got a goalless draw at the Etihad in front of a 52,221 strong crowd.
Real were without Ronaldo but did have Bale and Benzema. Not many real chances in the game till the end, but both teams will be feeling reasonably happy about the result.
