Local press player ratings- Germany 2:0 Belarus

Germany continued their steady progress up as they beat Belarus to make it two wins out of as many games in European qualifying. Die Mannschaft, who had kicked off their campaign with an upset 3:2 win over the Netherlands, saw off Belarus thanks to goals in either half from Leroy Sane (13) and Marco Reus (62). Sane had scored in the opening quarter against the Dutch as well.

Northern Ireland’s 2:1 win over Estonia means that they top the group with a 100% record (3 wins out of 3). The Netherlands didn’t feature in this round of fixtures owing to their participation in the Nations League finals in Portugal.

Germany’s next fixture will be against Estonia in Mainz. Goal scorer Sane, Klostermann, Ginter, Kimmich and Neuer were among the best German players on show at the Borisov Arena.

Before the tournament, the Lionesses had seen off the likes of New Zealand, Spain and Denmark. They even managed a 2-2 draw with current holders USA. Whilst none of these victories were emphatic, it demonstrated that they knew what was required to win.

Germany player ratings vs Serbia 2019 (1:1 draw friendly)

How did Germany and Joachim Low’s first international game after the axing of key Bayern trio Muller, Hummels and Boateng go? Die Mannschaft drew 1:1 with Serbia. The visitors took the lead through Luka Jovic, who plies his trade in the Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt. FCB medio Leon Goretzka, a sub for Julian Brandt, equalised for the home side.

Most of Germany’s starting lineup, bar Sane and Gundogan didn’t do very well. Serbia’s starting XI certainly did better than their German counterparts, but Marco Reus and Goretzka both had positive impacts from the bench for the home side.

The worst player on the evening went to Milan Pavkov, the Serbian second half substitute who saw a straight red in second half stoppage time for a horror tackle on Sane.
