Sweden confirmed as Germany’s last eight opponents at WWC

Germany’s women will take on Sweden in the last eight of the tournament after the latter eliminated Canada in the Round of 16. The Germans had earlier booked their spot with a 3:0 win over Nigeria. Seven of the eight quarter-finalists are European teams, with the United States the sole exception.

The fixture will be played at Roazhon Park in Rennes. Both teams have played a single group game each at the venue- Germany edged China 1:0 while Sweden beat Chile 2:0

Germany 4:0 South Africa | Die Nationalelf finish top of Group B

Germany’s women finished their group engagements with a 100% record as they beat South Africa 4:0 in Montpellier. The game, attendanced by 15.502 spectators, saw Die Nationalelf score thrice before the interval against a hapless Banyana outfit.

Germany’s goals came through Melanie Leoprolz (14), Sara Dabritz (29), Alexandra Popp (40) and Lina Magull (58). They thus won Group A with a 100% record and also preserved their record of not conceding a single goal in group play.

With Germany winning their group, they’ll now face a third place qualifier in the Round of 16 (Grenoble June 22)

FIFA June 2019 Rankings- Germany rise two spots to 11th

Germany’s twin European qualifying victories have lifted them to 11th place in the latest FIFA rankings- an improvement of two places. The Germans beat Belarus 2:0 away from home and followed it up with a 8:0 triumph against Estonia in Mainz.

With 1582 points, Die Mannschaft are level on points with Argentina and just seven behind Denmark, who currently occupy 10th place.
