Xabi Alonso’s final home game as Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s manager didn’t quite go to plan, with the Werkself suffering a 2:4 loss at home to Borussia Dortmund. Leverkusen took the lead through Frimpong, but BVB hit back with four successive goals before a late Hofmann goal reduced the margin of defeat for the home side.

An afternoon to forget for Leverkusen, with only Florian Wirtz, widely linked with a summer switch to Bayern Munich, emerging with an element of credit. Wirtz got a 2 player rating, which is very good in the German system
A bunch of Bayer Leverkusen players- Tapsoba, Hincapie and Xhaka, got a poor 5 rating, although none of them got the worst possible (6) rating under the German system.
Brandt, Bensebaini and Kobel were the standout BVB players against Leverkusen in these Bild player ratings, and it’s no surprise that they also make it to the Bundesliga Team of the Week for Round 33 (2024/25 season)
