Wenger Accusing His Gunners Of LACKING Desire
Posted on 24. Aug, 2008 by Milox in Premiership
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger criticised his players for lacking desire following the 1-0 defeat at Fulham yesterday.
An off-colour Gunners performance was punished by Brede Hangeland’s first half effort, the giant defender stabbing home from Jimmy Bullard’s corner.
Emmanuel Adebayor headed against a post and Robin Van Persie went close in the opening period, but Arsenal needed a greater attacking threat.
But it was the pyhsical approach adopted by Fulham that most caused Wenger’s troops trouble.
And the Frenchman said: “When you want to play at the top you must start the game with the right attitude and personality.
“That’s what we didn’t do and that’s a good learning lesson. It was the kind of game where you couldn’t afford a mistake at the back or at a set piece.
“I believe they wanted it a bit more than us in the first half and the corner (when they scored) shows that.”
Arsenal: Almunia, Sagna, Toure, Gallas, Clichy, Walcott (Bendtner 65), Eboue, Denilson, Nasri, Adebayor, Van Persie. Subs Not Used: Fabianski, Ramsey, Song Billong, Wilshere, Djourou, Gibbs.

Sorry Wenger - you can criticise your players as much as you like but you are responsible for this mess. You still not have obtained a top midfield player who could step up when Fabregas is injured or banned. You made Gallas captain and continue to play him with Toure in the centre of the defence which everybody accept you knows does not work! You have decided to loan out the best CH we have again - Djourou. You continue to buy crocks - Sivestre and Bischoff to supplement Dialby,Rosicky and RVP. You continue to play young inexperienced players in the first team. We still do not have a top goalkeeper. You continue to talk up Walcott when it is obvious to most fans he has no football brain. The squad is still too small to cope with a long hard season. You seem to ignore the lessons you say you learnt from last season. Another season where we will be aiming for a top 4 place again - and no hope of anything else. The Wenger knows brigade are diminishing all the time!
