Talks Between Chelsea And Arshavin Continue

Arshavin has reportedly attracted interest from a number of European clubs following his excellent performances at Euro 2008 for Russia, and Chelsea may be the club in the lead for the talented striker.
Barcelona seemed like the team most likely to sign the 27-year-old, however Konstantin Sarsania, a Zenit spokesman has claimed that talks between Chelsea and the player’s agent have taken place, and a move to Stamford Bridge could be an option.
Sarsania said in the Daily Star: “On Thursday, players from the national team return to our training camp.
“Arshavin and his agent Pavel Andreev are to clarify their position with us then.
“We do not want to sell Arshavin. That’s exactly why we need Andrei to meet the bosses of the club - to understand what he is really after.
“My understanding was that he would like to go and play abroad. But he isn’t only interested in moving to Barcelona.
“There’s also Chelsea. Andrei never rejected the idea of moving there.
“The Chelsea managers know the situation and have already talked to his agent.”

Chelsea is a natural destiniation for him, given their strong Russian links, and the fact that Abromovich has allegedly told Scolari he needs to have at least one Russian in the team.
He is clearly a very good player, and those who have been following him long before the Euros assure me he has been consistently excellent, so i doubt he’ll become another Karol Poborsky type who impressed at the Euros but failed to do so after his big money move.
I think with all the hype, the lasd will go for considerably more money than he’s worth, but then it’s Chelsea so no-one cares - least of all them!
