At last night’s end of the season awards dinner, this fabulous Wayne Rooney overhead kick vs Man City was rated as Manchester United’s goal of the season for 2010/11.
Rooney’s stunning goal vs City won 68% of the votes in the poll conducted for United’s goal of the 10/11 season. Dimitar Berbatov’s goal vs Liverpool in September 2010 came second, while Javier Chicharito Hernandez’s goal against Stoke in October came third.
Rooney has now won United’s goal of the season award for the second straight year running. In 2009/10, he won it for his strike in United’s 3-1 win over arch rivals Arsenal FC. Read the rest of this entry

Manchester United star Wayne Rooney was involved in a fresh controversy when he threatened a follower on Twitter in response to the latter’s abusive comments.

The Twitter follower, whose account was later deleted, abused Rooney by posting the following tweet
“Rooney ya fat whore ill smash ya head in with a pitchin wedge an bury ya with a ballast fork ya fat ugly lil n***e.”
In response, the incensed Rooney, whose penalty last weekend against Blackburn sealed the crown for United, replied back. What Rooney said to the abusive follower on Twitter doesn’t make for pretty reading, but neither did the former’s original taunt at the United striker. Rooney is not the first United player to have problems recently on Twitter. Midfielder Darron Gibson closed his account within two hours of joining because of abusive tweets directed his way.
“I will put u asleep within 10 seconds hope u turn up if u don’t gonna tell everyone ur scared u little nit. I’ll be waiting. Don’t say stuff and not follow up on it. I’ll be waiting.”
Rooney later tried to pass off the exchange of Twitter messages as light banter by tweeting the following message
“Haha bit of banter and people go nuts chill all people.”
