Spurs Striker Defends Sporting Director Comolli

Tottenham striker Darren Bent has backed sporting director Damien Comolli to retain his position at the club after revealing that the Frenchman played a major role in luring him to White Hart Lane.

It has been widely reported that Comolli will find himself out of the job in the coming weeks after failing to find a suitable replacement for Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane, who moved to Manchester United and Liverpool respectively during the summer.

The director’s transfer policy has been heavily criticised and it was thought that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was ready to wield the axe.

But Bent has leapt to Comolli’s defence, and has insisted that he is a vital cog in the functioning of the team behind the scenes.

The striker said: “He’s always around the place. He’s a fantastic guy and one of the main reasons I came to Tottenham. There is no problem at the club with him whatsoever. He’s been good; he is always helping the players - and that’s what they need.”

Meanwhile, Bent also acknowledged that the club would be looking to bring in a new forward during the January transfer window, although it remains to be seen whether Comolli will oversee that search.

“You don’t have to be a genius to see we only have three strikers,” he continued. “One’s quite young, and another is injured - so you’re going to be short.”

I’m in shock…

Who’d expected one of Comolli’s biggest failures to come out in support of the guy?

You’d best stick to blowing smoke up Ramos’ ar$e if you want to stay at the club. Actually, come to think of it, keep talking up Comolli please!
