Spurs slap ridiculous £40m price tag on Berbatov !
Posted on 07. Apr, 2008 by Milox in Premiership
Tottenham have slapped a £40 million price-tag on star striker Dimitar Berbatov.
The Sunday Mirror says Spurs will also not consider selling to any Premiership rival after it emerged that four of Europe’s biggest clubs are ready to compete for the Bulgarian.
Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid and Italian neighbours AC and Inter Milan are continuing to keep close tabs on him.
Close friends of the prolific marksman claim this will be his last season at White Hart Lane as he seeks to join a team who can match his own ambitions and are regularly playing Champions League football.

Why do you say the price is ridiculous? Yeah, it’s a bit steep, but footballers who are half the players Berbatov is routinely have massive ‘buy-out’ clauses put on their heads.
Wayne Rooney was ?29 million; Fernando Torres was 26 million. While you can argue that either or both of them is as good or better than Berbatov, it is indisputable that they were purchased as ‘potential’ (even if ‘extremely exciting potential’). Berbatov, however, is proven and at the peak of his powers.
I think the price tag is fair enough - if anyone wants to match it - the idea of putting such a price tag on a players head being to frighten potential buyers away, as the ’selling’ club wished to keep the player!

how is it ridiculous if spurs main reason for putting the price that high is so no one wants to buy him. And if they do tottenham are quids in £30 mill in fact. You are a very stupid person and i think that the world is a better place that your being stupid on the internet where you cant hurt anyone aposed to being in the real world where heaven forbid your stupidity and ignorance could get you or your sister wife hurt.

If Tevez was said to be around the £35 million area… I think Spurs are right to quote that price.
A price like that, would also put off other premiership teams, stopping the chance; of ‘us’ becoming victims of Berb’s skill.
Looking at his goal scoring record (for clubs and country)… I would price him even higher.
Huntellar should be his replacement… if we are tempted.

The price is to scare any one from the prem and our rivals only utd and chelsea could pay this and utd wont so its chelsea and real madrid and barca and they have great players to trade 20 million and drenthe plus snieder or deca and ronaldino we would get a lazy player that could still beat most of our defenders in second gear and berbatov could get lost on there big picthes and would suit manyarner style football in other words lazy

Sean I agree with your comments. the price is a deterent and that is the end of that. I also rate him higher than 40mil. If a carthorse like shevchenko can get 32 mil Berba is worth at least 3x that. To Mr ‘I cant beleive I read this ‘ It amazes me that you can actually read. We can all see through your veiled attempts to sound like an educated person ‘aposed’ to what? maybe you should try the spellchecker in one of your other apps before publishing any more of your foul mouthed rants. As opposed to just reeling off mindless b o l l o x thinking that you have an IQ of 160. I smell a Chelski fan…… 3-1 a fecked it up 3-1 and you fecked up/ If you lose the title by a ppoint this season it will make the 4-4 draw at the lane even more satisfying than it was to watch. I am praying for Av

At the end of the day, Dimitar Berbatov is TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR’S player. Nobody else’s, and they can slap whatever price tag they like on him.
They can also choose who they want to sell him to, if and when he goes so all you ManUSA/ Chelski and Liverpool fans can go whistle! United have been trying to unsettle him for over a year now, and I guarentee Berbatov won’t ever play for them or any other English club.

actually i am quiet well educated and im not a chelsea fan. cant really see how it was foul mouthed as i only really used the word stupid and in your reply you used far harsher language than I. I would say it was more insulting than foul mouthed. But it appears i hit a nerve, are you from Norfolk by any chance? And i stand by my claim that it was a stupid Article which at first sight i thought was written by the scum. I thought this because a) it showed no signs of any background reading on the topic. b) shows that you have no idea of the clubs intentions, even when its painfully obvious. And i do believe it is painfully obvious coz every reply on here has got it spot on. Say what you want about my spelling, i know its far bellow par but at least im not stupid enough to be blind sided by the most obvious of footballing precautions.

Well Educated?

Mr “cant (sic) believe i read this”:
I’m not sure about being well educated. Quite and quiet have very different meanings. Capital letters are also useful. Bellows are usually used for stoking fires. Have you heard of punctuation?
I’d suggest getting an education in Norfolk. There is a fine University there. People are able to write properly too.
