Tottenham have agreed to a ‘football and commercial’ partnership with Major League Soccer club San Jose Earthquakes in order to boost the club’s profile in America.

MLS rules state that Spurs cannot use the Earthquakes as a feeder club, but the American side will be able to benefit from the training models of the North London club, while the deal opens up a new marketing avenue to Tottenham.

A club spokesman said: “The agreement will focus on football and commercial development that will see the implementation of a best practice exchange programme, with the objective of creating a lasting bond between the two clubs.”

The deal could also see Spurs travel to America for pre-season friendly tours, in attempt to market their product on an international scale.

Tottenham executive director Paul Barber said: “This agreement with San Jose Earthquakes will provide us with an excellent opportunity to access a key region in a global market.

“As a club we are continually looking for innovative ways to evolve and our partnership with the Earthquakes will enable us to market Tottenham to a wider audience.

“We already have a fan base within the state of California and the opportunity to grow the brand in the US is very appealing.”
