Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill expects to lose Phil Bardsley back to Manchester United at the end of this season.

"Sir Alex has said he is recalling all players from loan," O'Neill told the club's official website. "I think that was always going to be the case.


"When I spoke to Sir Alex about it in the first place and to Phil, I don't think it was a case of seeing how things developed.

"I think he's enjoyed it and I've enjoyed having him here, there's no doubt about it.

"But there was never any talk from Sir Alex about anything other than the fact he was giving him some games which would help him, and hopefully help us."
