Aston Villa have made a late bid to hi-jack Sunderland's bid for Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul.
The French centre-back has fallen out of favour at White Hart Lane and had been thought to be on the verge of signing for Roy Keane's Black Cats side.
But Martin O'Neill has reportedly made a last-ditch effort to land the 22-year-old, despite the Morocco-born player being due to arrive in the North East for a medical.
Kaboul is thought to be one part of a quartet of Spurs players that the club has accepted a joint £23million offer for, with Teemu Tainio already confirmed as a Sunderland player, and Pascal Chimbonda and Steed Malbranque the remaining duo expected to complete moves.
Kaboul arrived at Spurs from Auxerre in a deal thought to be worth £7million last summer.
