Spurs assistant manager Gus Poyet has made the astonishing admission that strikers Darren Bent and Roman Pavlyuchenko cannot work in tandem.

Under-fire boss Juande Ramos was greeted with chants f ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ on Sunday when he replaced Russian Pavlyuchenko with Bent, despite his side losing 2-0 at Portsmouth at the time.

And things certainly don't bode well for the struggling north London club, with Poyet claiming the reason behind the decision was because the big-money pair can't play as a partnership.

He said: “Unfortunately this season, when Pavlyuchenko and Bent played together it didn’t work for us.

“They’re the same type of player and it is difficult for them to play together.

“So we made the decision to play with one striker.”
