Tottenham have been drawn to face striker Roman Pavlyuchenko's former club Spartak Moscow in UEFA Cup Group D, while they will also face Italian side Udinese, Croatians Dinamo Zagreb and Dutch team NEC Nijmegen.

Spurs were seeded in the top group of seeds for the draw, meaning they avoided the likes of AC Milan, two-time winners Sevilla and current La Liga leaders Valencia, while they could not be drawn against the other three English representatives, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Portsmouth.

Spurs bought Pavlyuchenko from the Russian league runners-up for £14million in the summer, but the forward will not be able to play in the game as he he cup-tied for the competition.

Luka Modric will also face his former club, Dinamo Zagreb in Group D.

Elsewhere, Portsmouth were drawn in the same group as Italian giants AC Milan, and Aston Villa were handed a tough draw against Bundesliga leaders and former Spurs' boss Martin Jol's Hamburg and Dutch side Ajax.
