Tottenham are on the trail of highly-rated Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso, according to reports.
The north Londoners have been criticised for lacking a steely edge in midfield after slumping to back-to-back Premier League defeats.
Now reports have emerged that the club is considering a move for tough-tackling Veloso before the transfer window closes on Monday.
Boss Juande Ramos, who already has Jamie O'Hara, Tom Huddlestone and Didier Zakora in that position, believes Veloso can help get the best out of the clubs creative talents.
The 22-year-old - a part of Portugal's squad in Euro 2008 who has previously been linked with Manchester United and Arsenal - would cost in the region of £15 to £20 million.

Firstly it’s ZOKORA…. and secondly, I’ll welcome the move for Veloso, if it is at all a real link and not some more media bullcrap…
