Milan's stuttering start to the season continued with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Catania at the San Siro on Sunday.
Jorge Andres Martinez headed the Sicilian side ahead in the first half, before a Kaka penalty just after half time salvaged a point for the European Champions.
Milan enjoyed most of the early possession, but struggled to create many clear cut chances.
Kaka had the first real sight of goal on 12 minutes. The Brazilian run with the ball straight at the two centre backs, Stovini and Terlizzi, who backed off all the way into the box. Kaka was caught in two minds as to whether he should shoot or pass to the supporting Clarence Seedorf, and in the end the ball trickled wide of the post.
Catania were defending deep and happy to hit Milan on the break through Mariano Julio Izco and Giuseppe Mascara, who looked to feed lone front man Gionatha Spinesi, and they got their reward on 26 minutes.
Mascara slotted a weighted through ball into the path of Spinesi, but the forward was forced wide by Milan goalkeeper Zeljko Kalac, who dived down at his feet. Spinesi had the time to turn, adjust his position and curl a cross to the far post, where the onrushing Martinez lost his marker, Favalli, and head home from a yard out.
The Milan thought they had equalised two minutes later. Andrea Pirlo hit a well struck free kick that rattled off of the crossbar. Filippo Inzaghi and Kaladze were both offside when the set piece was struck, and Inzaghi remained so as Kaladze handballed before knocking the ball to him to poach. Unsurprisingly, the goal was disallowed.
The last action of the half was just as dramatic. Kaka struck a low shot from the left side of the area, with Inzaghi prowling in the six yard box. The veteran striker got a foot to it, but he somehow managed to steer it away from goal with Polito already on the floor after diving for the initial shot.
The second half saw a major change in Milan's fortunes. Just three minutes had passed when Edusei slid in to block a low cross from Favalli and the ball hit his arm. Referee Andrea Gervasoni wasted no time in giving the penalty, which Kaka stroked into the bottom left corner to equalise.
Despite losing their lead, Catania remained spritied and organised for the rest of the match, reducing Milan to free kicks and shots from distance, mainly from the below-par Andrea Pirlo, in their attempts to find a winner.
CAGLIARI 1-0 SIENA
Pasquale Foggia continued his incredible scoring run so far this season with what proved to be the winner for Cagliari against Siena in Sardinia. The summer loan signing from parent club Lazio took full advantage of Christian Bucchi's hand ball in the box to fire home from the spot after just seven minutes.
EMPOLI 3-1 PALERMO
Empoli recorded their first win of the season at home to Palermo, but the Azzurri had to come from behind to grab all three points after an awful error from keeper Daniele Balli gifted Edison Cavani the opener just before half time.
Empoli were quick out of the blocks after the break though, Nicola Pozzi heading home Guillermo Giacomazzi's inch perfect cross soon after the restart before on-loan youngster Sebastian Giovinco volleyed the hosts into the lead in the 83rd minute.
Skipper Ighli Vannucchi sealed all three points with a late penalty.
NAPOLI 1-2 GENOA
Genoa scored an important win over fellow promoted club Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo thanks to a last minute winner from Giuseppe Sculli.
The hosts had opened the scoring courtesy of an unfortunate own goal from Paolo Cannavaro, who had no choice but to get something on a dangerous Leon cross to the near post. With Marco Borriello lurking, the Napoli defender diverted the ball past his own keeper.
Napoli pulled level on 53 minutes, Maurizio Domizzi converting a spot kick after Ezequiel Lavezzi had been brought down by Gaetano De Rosa, only for Sculli's late header from Borriello's cross to give Genoa all three points.
REGGINA 1-1 LAZIO
Aleksandar Kolorov's superb 35-yard strike salvaged a point for Lazio in Reggio Calabria after the Biancocelesti had fallen behind to an early Francesco Cozza goal.
The Reggina striker was played in by Nicola Amorouso before slotting coolly past Fernando Muslera in the Lazio net after just eight minutes of play.
Cozza saw a close range effort deflected onto the cross bar and he was left to rue his miss when Kolorov's wonder strike hit the back of the net with just over a quarter of an hour remaining.
SAMPDORIA 3-0 ATALANTA
Antonio Cassano opened his account for Sampdoria as the Blucerchiati roared to victory over Atalanta.
The former Roma ace sealed all three points with a well taken, and well-celebrated, goal on 83 minutes after Claudio Bellucci had opened the scoring soon after kick-off and Paolo Sammarco had doubled the hosts lead on 57 minutes.
Samp were unlucky not to have made it four, but a perfectly legitimate goal was ruled out for offside just after the half-time break.
UDINESE 2-1 PARMA
Udinese had to come from behind to claim all three points in a thriller at the Stadio Fruili.
Former Manchester City striker Bernardo Corradi opened the scoring for Parma - his third of the season - after good work from Davide Matteini and Paolo Castellini had forged an opening after 72 minutes.
But Fabio Quagliarella - recalled this summer after a spell with Sampdoria - hit back seven minutes later with his first goal in a bianconeri shirt. His tap in from two yards was unusual for its simplicity, but it created the platform from which Cristian Zapata was able to win the game deep in injury time with a far post volley into the roof of the net.
