Newcastle have made a shock £4million bid for Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos, according to reports.
Magpies boss Kevin Keegan sees the Swiss international as an ideal signing as he looks to bolster his leaky backline.
And the Gunners board are thought to be mulling over the offer, although would like to hold out for nearer £6million.
But boss Arsene Wenger will be less content to see the 23-year-old leave, having already seen Matthieu Flamini, Alexander Hleb, Gilberto Silva and Jens Lehmann depart the Emirates, and with Emmanuel Adebayor's future at the club also in doubt.
Senderos joined the Gunners in 2003 from Swiss side Servette but has never established himself as a first-team regular. He made just 14 league starts last season.
