The highly publicized pursuit of Real Madrid's pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo could end up landing them in hot water.

According to The Mail on Sunday, United chief executive David Gill will be acting on the previously indirect attacks on Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon, by sending a complaint to FIFA's disciplinary committee.

The reach of FIFA in these situations is quite limited, but carrying out the complaint would only help fuel the fire between the two clubs in this battle to keep, or land, arguably Europe's best player.

"The letter will say that Real Madrid are running a sustained campaign to try to unsettle our players to precipitate a transfer."

The recent statements from Ronaldo saying that he "wants to play for Real Madrid," has created a firestorm of controversy, and talking points from both sides.

A United source said: "Calderon's words were the straw that broke the camel's back. United didn't want to get FIFA involved but feel there is no other option now. David Gill has been away (for a meeting of Premier League chairmen) but he is angry about this. He'll be back on Monday and the first thing he's going to do is make our feelings official."
