Tottenham's pursuit of Diego Forlan looks to have hit the back burners after Atletico Madrid slapped a £23million price tag on the forward, according to reports.
The Spanish outfit admitted there has been contact between the clubs and said that the Uruguayan ace is available.
However, their valuation of the former Manchester United hitman may be too steep for Spurs, who are desperately seeking striking reinforcements.
Robbie Keane was sold off to Liverpool for £20million, while the club is weighing up a take-it-or-leave-it £25million bid from Manchester United for Dimitar Berbatov.
That has left the club short of options, with Darren Bent the only senior forward available to boss Juande Ramos.
As such, the Spaniard has been linked with a number of forwards this summer, including Barcleona's Samuel Eto'o, West Ham's Dean Ashton, Russian stars Roman Pavlyuchenko and Andrei Arshavin, and Argentine forward Diego Milito.
