William Gallas has responded to criticism he received last season about his actions during the team's draw with Birmingham in February.

The Gunners captain came under fire after he made a one-man sit-down protest in the opposite half of the pitch just as James McFadden was preparing to take a last minute penalty for the Blues.

But claims that his actions helped contribute to Arsenal's downfall, and ultimate surrender of their lead at the top of the Premier League have been rubbished by Gallas.

"I know some English players did criticise me after the game with Birmingham, trying to make of me responsible for this defeat (2-2 draw) and I thought they exaggerated," the Frenchman told his personal website.

"The only thing I can say is that we could have won there and when you want to be champion you have to keep in mind that those games make the difference."

Gallas, 30, did admit that he would change his approach this season, but only because the players have one more year's experience under their belts.

"I said I will change the way I speak to the players because they are one year older and are more conscious of what they have to do," he told his personal website.

"Then, I hope this season will be the good one."
