One day the story is dead, the next day it's back on. Tottenham's pursuit of Zenit St Petersburg forward Andrei Arshavin has been given a major boost after the Russians' boss Dick Advocaat admitted he expected the player to move to White Hart Lane.

Zenit have reportedly lowered their asking price for the 27-year-old to below the £20million mark, although recent reports suggested Arshavin was to be offered a new contract by the Russian side.

Advocaat was quoted as saying: "Last year we sold Martin Skrtel to Liverpool for £10m, and now probably Arshavin will go to Spurs."

Spurs are looking for more firepower after losing Robbie Keane to Liverpool, while Dimitar Berbatov's proposed move to Manchester United could yet take place.
