Dimitar Berbatov opened his Manchester United account last night as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side smashed Aalborg 3-0.
Berbatov fulfilled his dream of scoring in the Champions League with two second-half strikes in Denmark to add to Wayne Rooney’s 22nd-minute opener.
But it was not all good news for Ferguson, who saw Paul Scholes carried off in the first half with a nasty looking knee injury and Rooney also limp off early in the second half after falling to the ground without anyone near him.
Ferguson confirmed Scholes’ injury, saying: “He’s got knee ligament damage. We’ll have it assessed as soon as we get home.”
Arsenal also hit a purple patch, beating Porto 4-0, Robin van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor both scoring twice each.
