Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admits he is "less optimistic" about signing sulky Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov before the transfer window closes.

The Red Devils have reportedly made a take-it-or-leave-it £25million for the Bulgarian international.

But the north Londoners are thought to be holding out for £30million.

Now Ferguson is doubtful that the club's can reach an agreement before the window closes on Monday.

"I've no idea if he will sign," he said. "I'm less optimistic today. I've no idea what is going on.

"It is hard to communicate with some people in this life. We just have to get on with it."
