Police Urge FA To ‘TAKE ACTION’ Against Abusive Spurs Fans

The Football Association have been urged to take action in a police complaint about the verbal abuse directed at former Tottenham favourite Sol Campbell at Fratton Park on Sunday.
Hampshire Constabulary say they were prompted to take the unusual step of asking the FA to intervene by “the sheer number of people involved” in the chanting directed at the Portsmouth defender by visiting Spurs fans.
The FA are awaiting reports from witnesses and officials at the game, including referee Mike Dean before deciding whether to take matters further but they have already been contacted by the Hampshire police - who admitted it was “not feasible” to make arrests.
A statement from the FA said: “The FA recognises that football has a duty to challenge all discrimination within the game and our aim is to confront aggressive issues and obscene chanting and abuse.
“The FA takes these matters seriously and will investigate any alleged case we are made aware of, taking action where necessary.”
Pompey manager Harry Redknapp branded the verbal attacks on the 34-year-old - who left Spurs on a free transfer at the end of his White Hart Lane contract in June 2001 to join fierce local rivals Arsenal - as “filthy”.
A Hampshire police spokesman said: “Our officers at the game were aware of the problem but it was not feasible to make arrests in that kind of huge crowd situation. So no arrests were made.
“But what we have done is make a complaint to the FA about the conduct of fans which will, hopefully, be dealt with in an appropriate manner.
“We deal with these issues case by case, match by match, and on this occasion the sheer number of people involved was just too many for us to take action against individuals.”
The FA could charge Tottenham with failing to control their supporters, even though this action has obvious anomalies and is usually directed towards the home club when offensive behaviour comes into question.

Cool, lets charge the Spurs fans with homophobic chanting and whilst we’re at it, lets charge the Arsenal fans for chanting the same stuff when he was at Spurs. Oh, forgot, lets charge the arsenal fans too for their homophobic “songs” about cashly cole.
Hang on, how about the “toon army” for their homophobic chants against Jenas.
Oh wait, how about charging the chelsea fans for homopobic, anti-semetic banter/chants songs etc?
Lets also charge the west hams for all the above and whilst we’re there the Club Brugge for singing anti-English songs at WHL in the UEFA cup last season…
You get my jist…

totally supportive of any action the FA take, I’m sad to say. The despicable anti-Campbell chanting, which seems like it’ll never go away, made me ashamed to be a yid on Sunday. Vile.

As a life-long Yid I don’t blame Sol for leaving after 10 years loyal service so that he could win something. there was bugger-all chance of doing that with us. The only thing that really pissed everyone off was that they got him for free but I guess that was the board’s fault for not selling him earlier. There is no way we would keep a player of his quality for that long now. Now we just buy promising players and fatten them up for sale at a decent profit after a couple of years. Keeping on abusing him after all this time is frankly pathetic and just makes us look like o lot of moronic idiots. I hate to think what Danny would say about it.

I think it’s shows utterly disgraceful homophobia on behalf of the Hampshire constabulary. The lyrics of the song in question, although deeply offensive to anyone who has sympathy for Sol Campbell, make no comment on his sexuality. It seems the police are assuming that those suffering from HIV are all homosexual. This is simply not the case. The police should be ashamed of making such an assumption and I hope the FA don’t share they’re prejudices.
