Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton could be forced to continue his career overseas after last week's training ground bust-up with Ousmane Dabo.

The Daily Mail says Barton has alerted Italian clubs that he will be available in the summer. French World Cup winner Marcel Desailly, now a scout for AC Milan, is among those who have asked to be kept informed about the situation.

Barton was wanted by a host of English clubs including Everton and Middlesbrough during last summer's transfer window but has decided he may be better off starting afresh in a new league after his latest disgraceful actions.

One compromise would be to join Celtic, who have asked his advisers to keep them informed.
