Arsenal and England winger Theo Walcott has had surgery on his dislocated shoulder and is set to miss at least the next 12 weeks of action. The youngster suffered the injury while in training with England ahead of Wednesday’s Germany game.

This is an injury that has plagued Walcott so far in his professional football career as he has a hereditary shoulder problem. Arsene Wenger admitted that even though Walcott could be back in three months time, it will take him a while to be ‘completely competitive’.

Walcott’s injury is, of course, a massive blow for Arsenal and it comes at a time where they can ill-afford to be losing their best players. Wenger’s team face Manchester City this weekend looking to avoid their fifth Premier League defeat of the season.

Like already mentioned, Walcott picked up the injury while on duty with England. At the time, they were preparing for a friendly fixture against Germany that Wenger had earlier criticised. So, presumably – he was angry with the FA after Walcott’s injury?

Well, not quite. Not publicly anyway. The Arsenal boss has accepted that the incident was an ‘accident in training’ and that no individuals can be blamed for it. He also played down talk of compensation being sought.

Wenger did admit that he was annoyed with the timing of the Germany game though as it fell in the middle of November between two Premier League games. This is something that resulted in a number of top players withdrawing from the national squad.

Arsenal and Wenger must forget about Walcott this weekend though and focus on picking up three points against Manchester City. With Arsenal far from at their best though, the football odds might just be backing them to record back-to-back defeats for the first time in 58 Premier League games.
