Gunners face competition to sign Brazilian ACE

Arsenal could face stiff competition to sign Brazilian Carlos Mineiro.

The Gunners are reported to have played the 33-year-old free agent in a behind closed-doors friendly with Fulham, although Chelsea are also thought to be chasing the midfielder.

The Brazilian international is free to join either London club after parting company with Budesliga outfit Herta Berlin.

Arsene Wenger has made a move for the veteran after missing out on a number of targets during the transfer window as he looks to boost his paper-thin squad.

But Blues bossLuiz Felipe Scolari is also desperate to add to his own squad after the news that Michael Essien faces six months on the sidelines after damaging his cruciate ligaments inWorld Cup action last week.

And now the Blues boss is ready to sign free agent Mineiro from under the nose of Arsene Wenger, who tracked the 33-year-old after the transfer window closed last week.

And while Wenger will be hoping giving Minerio a trial he will be leading the chase for the players signature, the Brazilian could well be keen to link up with his former national team boss Scolari, who gave him the first of his 25 Brazilian caps in 2001.

The defensive midfielder, a regular under Brazil coach Dunga until last season, was freed by Hertha Berlin in the summer - but has kept fit.

And while Wenger was in the box seat, Scolari expects to land his man as cover in the next few days.

You missed out Birmingham City F.C. and it’s not been confirmed that he played for Arsenal’s reserves behind closed doors at all. BCFC have actually played him in a reserve friendly in front of the national public for FREE!! He’s signing for Blues’ not idiotic London clubs.
