Drogba charged by FA over coin throw

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association for throwing a coin into a crowd of Burnley supporters on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred after Drogba had opened the scoring for his team. During his celebrations, the coin was thrown at the forward who proceeded to hurl it back into the crowd.
As much as Drogba shouldn’t have done what he did though, I really do feel this has been blown out of all proportion. It was a heat of the moment reaction and I imagine the Burnley fan who threw the coin in the first place is sitting at home laughing about the whole situation.
Perhaps he will throw a coin at another player this weekend to see if he can get a reaction that will benefit his team? These views are echoed by Drogba’s team-mate Frank Lampard who says that the ban ‘sends out the wrong message to football fans’.
In fairness to Drogba, he did come out and apologise straight away and even though this doesn’t justify what he did – he knew he was in the wrong. Apparently he has until 6pm tonight to respond to the charge, but I think he knows as much as anyone that this will be a waste of time.
The most annoying thing about this whole situation is that Burnley’s marvellous victory has been overshadowed by someone who decided to throw coins onto the pitch. Owen Coyle’s team went against all football odds to beat the Blues on penalties and what are we talking about – Drogba getting suspended!
Football is so frustrating sometimes isn’t it?
