Petr Cech is a doubt for Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Fenerbahce after the goalkeeper reportedly suffered a head injury in a training ground

The 25-year-old - who has only recently returned to training following a period out with ankle ligament damage - sustained a gash to his head after colliding with a team-mate on Sunday, according to reports in the Czech Republic.

The news comes as a blow to Blues boss Avram Grant, who was expected to recall the shot stopper to the side for Tuesday’s clash at Stamford Bridge.

A source close to Chelsea told Pravo: “The doctor went with him to hospital and diagnosed the problem as a lacerated wound.

“Petr has undergone a surgical intervention. We know nothing more for the present.

“He has been in full training but it cannot be said if he will be ready for Tuesday’s Champions League game against Fenerbahce.”

Cech, who has not featured for Chelsea since the beginning of March with, has been forced to play with a protective helmet since he fractured his skull in a collision with Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt in October 2006.

Chelsea head into the second leg of their quarter-final with Fenerbahce hoping to overturn a 2-1 deficit after last week’s defeat in Istanbul.
