Aston Villa Line Up £12 Bid For West Ham Striker

Posted on 30. Aug, 2008 by Milox in Premiership

Dean Ashton is a £12 million transfer target for ambitious Aston Villa, according to reports.

The 24-year-old striker has been in good form for the Hammers, hitting a hatful of goals during pre-season and scoring both goals in the 2-1 win over Wigan on the opening day of the Premier League season.

Villains boss Martin O’Neill took his summer spending spree to £48 million following the arrival of Newcastle’s James Milner to Villa Park.

But he is eager to add another striker to his squad and former Crewe and Norwich hitman Ashton fits in with his policy of buying young English talent.

Ashton - who signed a new long-term contract with the Hammers in May - was reportedly linked with a move to Manchester United earlier in the summer, while rumours persist that bitter rivals Spurs remain interested in the England man.

And why not? Ashton would be an excellent addition to our squad and if we can persuade David Villa to sign for us, our forwards could be Ashton & Villa!! But seriously, we do need more depth and versatility in the forward line and Dean Ashton would fit the bill nicely. We have 52 hours to get him, starting…….. NOW!!!

Because Ashton is not leaving west ham, this is just another bit of poor journalism. He is important to us and our desire to compete for the European spots and contrary to the crap being spouted by the media we are not a selling club anymore and Ferdinand is no great loss to us. You’ll have to look elsewhere and weep when he scores the winner past the villa.

if ashton got sold before the transfer window closed with west ham already being a striker short, i think the boardroom would be stormed and a guillotine rolled in. sorry villa fans but this is about as wide of the mark as a story can get.
