A New Twist In The Spurs Berbatov Case

Another twist has emerged in the dispute between Tottenham and Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson over the possible signing of striker Dimitar Berbatov.

The north London outfit reported Ferguson to the Premier League after he was quoted in the English media, as having made a confirmed bid for the Bulgarian frontman.

The source of the quotes was said to have come at a meeting between Ferguson and Manchester United’s Scandinavian supporters’ club, who have since admitted they misquoting the Red Devils boss in an interview published on their website.

It is thought the tabloid press in this country sourced the story, which appeared on the united.no website last Thursday.

Subsequently the interview has been removed from the site and the supporters’ club branch webmaster Steinar Madsen told Norwegian newspaper Aftonposten: ‘We are to blame in the sense how the interview was presented. Ferguson didn’t mention the name Berbatov when he was interviewed by us.

‘I would call it a misunderstanding. It was tricky conditions for the interview.’

Madsen added: ‘Ferguson confirmed that United had tabled an offer. We assumed it was Berbatov he was talking about. We might have taken it too far.’

Ferguson has already hit-out at Spurs after chairman Daniel Levy claimed last week he was trying to unsettle the player and that he would report him to the Premier League.

The United boss responded by denying making any such comments and claimed that any Premier League investigation would be ‘very embarrassing’ for the London club ‘because they are basing their complaint on quotes from a newspaper that were never from me’.

Ha Ha, SAF is getting twitchy so gets a fans club to lie for him to try and get him out of trouble!.
Does he really think that Levy would go to all of this hassle if he did not have more than that?.
Levy is not stupid and will have made sure that his case is built on facts unlike SAF’s being built on bullsh!t.

i dont know why i bother reading these articles nothing will come of this….if i was levy i would sell berba to barca for 20 mil rising to 30 if they sell him to a premiership club..and tell keane he aint goin to the bin tippers .levy has gotta make a stand if we dont, and keep selling our best players to the top 4 we will never brake into the champions league positions..if keane wants to sit on the bench watching champions league football he can sit on our bench watching us next season…i couldnt care less if either of them play for us again ..but selling to liverpool the team we are most likely to catch would be football suicide !!our moto is to dare is to do..well i dare levy to stand firm football is about results not profit…message to rafa from levy … we decide when our players leave….we are not a selling club…we will not be swayed…we are the team on the up…. we will take your cl position …WE ARE TOTTENHAM!!!

If you think the complaint is mainly based on Freguson’s comments to some Norwegian supporters club you are way off the mark. Levy’s written complaint tellingly refers to contacts made with Berb and Keane anf their agents without permission of Tottenham management. These contacts are described as efforts, over a long pewriod of time, to prise the players away from Spurs. If contacts, signed by adult people, are to be held worthless then the entire pro football scene will be in chaos.
