Gareth Barry made Premier League appearance No. 633 earlier today evening for West Bromwich Albion, thus becoming the new record holder. Barry played the full 90 but was unable to prevent his side from going down 2:0 at the Emirates to Arsene Wenger’s men, for whom French striker Alexandre Lacazette netted twice.
Wenger presented Barry with a signed Arsenal kit- a nice gesture from the Arsenal gaffer we must say. Some of Arsenal’s players, Ainsley Maitland-Niles for example, were toddlers when Barry started his career at Villa!
The previous record holder was Manchester United and Welsh winger Ryan Giggs with 632. Barry equalled the former’s record in last week’s draw at the Hawthorns, a game that also marked Andy Carroll’s 100th league appearance for West Ham.
