Video Highlights Chile become first team to win Copa in back to back years since Argentina in 1947

Chile became the first team to win back to back Copa America titles in successive years since Argentina in 1946/47 when they beat the Albiceleste on penalties in New Jersey. The Copa these days is not an annual affair, but 2016 being its centenario year, a special edition of the tournament was organised in the United States, and this record is therefore likely to belong to Chile for the foreseeable future. The next edition of the tournament will be held in 2019.

Like last year’s final, this one too ended goalless after 120 minutes. Chile won 4-1 on penalties last year- this time the score was 4-2 in their favour, with Lionel Messi and Lucas Biglia the guilty men for Argentina.

It’s also the third consecutive year Argentina have made it to the final but not won a trophy- they lost the 2014 World Cup final to Germany, and have now made it to consecutive Copa finals but lost on both occasions to Chile.
