Matthew Upson- Stoke City swoop for Hammers defender

Stoke City have completed the signing of Matthew Upson from West Ham United on a free transfer. The 32 year old was a free agent following the expiry of his contract this summer and the Potters have moved quickly to snap him up, just weeks after they picked up Jonathan Woodgate on a similar deal from Tottenham Hotspur.

The English international has put pen to paper a two year deal at the Britannia Stadium.

Stoke manager Tony Pulis expressed delight at the signing, saying that Upson along with Woodgate were absolute steals for Stoke in the current window.

Stoke are currently in the Europa League playoff round, where they will meet Thun.
