Newcastle United are planning a sensation £7.5m swoop to bring out of favour Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov to St.James Park this summer. According to newspaper reports, Magpies boss Alan Pardew has earmarked Berbatov as a possible replacement for Andy Carroll on Tyneside.
Berbatov is widely expected to leave United this summer, with former club Tottenham Hotspur rumoured to be his next destination because of Spurs’ need for attacking firepower and United’s liking of Lilywhites playmaker Luka Modric.
Berbatov, the Premier League’s top scorer last season, has also been linked with moves to Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Magpies fans are sceptical about his transfer because age is not exactly on his side and they do not want a repeat of the Michael Owen saga on Tyneside.
